Gareth Gates

Gareth Gates rose to fame through the inaugural Pop Idol in 2001/2. He became a household name in the most memorable of these finals and much remembered Will VS Gareth contest!  He went on to sell over 5 million records worldwide and have hits across the globe. His version of Unchained Melody sold over a million copies in the UK, was the youngest ever debut at number 1 and is the 3rd best selling single of the Noughties; Whilst Anyone of Us was huge hit across the world.  More recently Gareth has had a hugely enjoyable and successful career in Musicals (Les Miserable’s, Legally Blonde, Joseph to name but a few).  In 2014 he picked up his skates again to appear in the last ever TV series of Dancing on Ice.  This finale bought back show winners and viewers favourites to compete for one last time!  As if that wasn’t enough he also found the time to join a band and become part of the second series of the Big Reunion, in the boy band 5th story.  Autumn 2014 saw the Big Reunion Boy Band tour bus hitting the cities across the UK and Ireland for an Arena tour with Blue, 5ive, Damage, 3T and many more! Gareth followed this up by taking a totally different show on the road, with his acoustic band set up playing past hits and new songs and himself playing the piano.

Mad about the musicals and several band shows kept Gareth busy, however a vocal injury forced him to take time off to rest his voice after living life on the road touring for 6 years took it’s toll.  During this time he invented Cuppanut – three different hot coconut drinks.  The venture is a huge success, is available nationwide and has won 4 Food awards to date.

Gareth’s return to the stage was Footloose the Musical, in unusually for Gareth, a comedy role.  His portrayal of Willard is winning his as many plaudits and fans, as is the scene where he’s stripped to his underwear!

Before returning to Footloose in April, Gareth is taking part in Comic Relief, as part of Boys Allowed (a comedy drag take on Girls Allowed for the show’s flagship ‘Let’s Sing and Dance..’ Prime time Saturday night show, on BBC1 on Saturday nights throughout March 2017.
